Covid 2nd wave hits Europe

As coronavirus infections in Europe increase, several countries are imposing new lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus that has claimed close to 219,228 lives in the continent so far. Covid-19 is spiraling out of control in Europe.
The number of deaths due to the coronavirus is up by 40% compared to just a week ago.

Opening my Microsoft News news feed this morning, this is what I found.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, told a virtual press conference from Belgium — which currently has the highest infection rate in the European Union — that the coronavirus pandemic remains “very serious.”

Here in Poland the daily numbers keeps rising. Yesterday a record high in new cases were recorded standing at 21690. Italy reported a record 24,911 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday. France is starting to emerge as a European epicenter. Daily new cases topped 50 000 over the weekend while 523 people died on Tuesday, including 235 old age home residents.

Russia , Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland, Britain, Greece and Austria also saw sharp increases in new cases daily averaging between 5000 and 22000 new cases per country.

In the USA, they also saw the highest number of daily new cases recorded with a staggering 99,000.

Still think this pandemic is a joke? Reality is that we need to carry on living, working and accept that Covid-19 is not likely to simply just disappear. We need to go back to the drawing board, change our actions, behavioral patterns, how we go about our normal day to day activities. Lockdown is but a temporary solution to contain the immediate risk of spread only. Until such time when a successful cure has been developed, we need to look at the 5 A’s to make it work.
