SUMMER IN KRAKOW

“Zamek Tenczyn”

Scouting for properties always ends up with visiting some or other Castle. Today we went back to Zamek Tenczyn. This time around, the gates were open for visitors and we could get some awesome photos inside and from above.

The Tenczyn Castle is a medieval castle in the Polish Jura, in the village of Rudno, Poland. It was built as a seat of the powerful Tęczyński family.
This villages are breathtakingly beautiful and roads runs through the forest. It looks like something from a fairytale!
Tarnowek, Wschowa County, from Rudno, Komorniki through Krydlowice and in and around Gwizdano, are all villages that’s top of the list to find a home to settle.
All theses little villages are on the outskirts of the City of Krakow, between 25 km and 40 km out. Public transport in Poland, as across all of Europe, is fantastic. It’s important for us considering Keanu attends school in the city. Though the roads are excellent we need to consider weather conditions like snow in winter. Only our South African friends and family would truly be able to grasp the full extend of my amazement with the public transport and why I feel it’s worth mentioning. Firstly it’s very clean, safe and affordable, but mostly it is fast, on time and geared for all 4 seasons.
We had a late lunch in the village of Krzeszowice at a traditional Polish Restaurant, #RestauracjaKociolek. Once again the Polish Traditional food did not disappoint.
“Seated atop a volcanic outcrop about 25 kilometers west of Kraków, Tenczyn Castle was once one of the largest castles in Poland. In its prime it was often regarded on par with the royal residence at Wawel Castle in Kraków in terms of beauty and magnitude. In its ruined state today, it remains a breathtaking monument to Poland’s medieval past. The castle’s importance and high defensive quality were confirmed when it was chosen as a place of imprisonment for some of the highest ranking officials of the Teutonic Knights Order, who were taken hostage by the Polish king after their defeat at the battle of Grunwald in 1410. To commemorate that event, one of the castle’s towers was named Grunwaldzka.”

‘The story behind the two wieners”

It’s an absolute stunner of a day here with temperature of 34°c so we decided to vender a little further than normal.
Officially summer holidays or not, my ‘young adult’ of a teenager chose to stay home in his bed and to play games inside where it’s much cooler. (What is wrong with teenagers these days? Never want to go with mom ?) 🤔
We took the highway to Dworska in the region of Czchów. There we found a very pleasant family recreation spot, called the ‘Petting Zoo’ , Jaskowi Sad – Alpaca Beach, on the riverside.
Bright coloured umbrellas, homemade cakes and lemonade, and loads of very friendly Alpacas, greeted us on arrival.
When we ordered our food we both decided to go for the traditional kielbasa hot dogs… well, the waitress was extremely fast with our order.
Within 5 minutes she brought us a tray that had from home made bread and sauces, to the raw sausage & tongs on it… after which she politely pointed us in the direction of the ready to braai fire.

And that dear friends, is how we ended up braaing two little sausages only

This is a gem of a spot with sunchairs, lucious green grass, sprinklers to cool you off, and off cause, the Alpaca’s that young and old can feed & pet.
Ideal for young families and extremely chilling atmosphere for young and old.

Yes, there was a castle 5 km down the road, but we ended up braaing our hot-dogs and Bartosz had a few beers. That meant one thing only… Heidi got the keys.

So instead of visiting another castle, we took to the roads and I drove on highways, byways and single lane pathways all the way back to the city. (I loved every moment of being behind the steer again – left hand drive and right side of the road and all)  On the way home we stopped at the Food Truck Festival in Krakow and got some proper beef burgers to take home. We added more photos to top up this post. Enjoy!
